Microlight Flying Lessons
A Licence that is both fun and practical. Our Microlight Aircraft, such as the EV97 TeamEurostar and the SLA100 Executive have performance and style which rivals many light aircraft but at a fraction of the cost.
To fly microlights a National Private Pilots Licence (NPPL) is required. Students for the NPPL with a microlight rating have to complete at least 25 hours instruction (of which at least 10 hours must be solo flying) and complete two cross country flights of 40 nautical miles before taking a General Flying Test (GFT). In addition 5 theoretical examinations must be passed, as follows:-
- Air Law
- Meteorology
- Aeroplanes Technical
- Navigation
- Human Performance Limitations
There is also a restricted version of the licence that requires fewer training hours but limits flying to within 8 miles of the take-off point and with other weather related criteria.
Medical Requirements
Medical requirements for the NPPL are based on DVLA regulations. The applicant and their doctor must sign a declaration of medical fitness; a medical examination is not normally required. A medical form and information sheets are available on the CAA website: www.caa.co.uk or directly through us.
Age and Weight Restrictions
Authority from a parent or guardian is required for those under 17 years of age. Solo flying cannot be undertaken until a student is 16. The weight limit for a flight in our aircraft is 100kg.
Booking Lessons
Each flying lesson is booked as a two hour slot to allow for the pre-flight briefing, walk around inspection of the aircraft, and the one hour flying lesson.
Also, you may require a short de-briefing following the flight, so that you know how you performed and where you need to focus for the next lesson.
